CHRISTMAS TREES

We think you'll really enjoy our festive tree lot.  We carry a distinguished diversity of evergreens.  So  the tree you seek should be easy  to find upon your arrival.  Fresh and fragrant, healthy and handsome, small or large, wide or tall, fir or spruce, traditional majesty or slightly quirky beauty. Our trees are a splendid sight to behold.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR CHRISTMAS TREES

A natural Christmas tree is a living  treasure that we bring into our homes to enjoy through sight, scent and touch.  By following  3 easy steps  the tree that you bring home from our festive tree lot can retain its freshness and beauty for over a month.

1.  FRESH CUT There must be a fresh 3/4 inch ( 2 cm) cut on the tree stump before it is placed in water.  The cut must be no more than 6 hours old, otherwise the sap will begin to dry and seal the cut.  This requirement ensures water uptake.

2.  TREE STAND WITH ADEQUATE WATER CAPACITY
When the tree is first brought into your home, place it in a tree stand capable of holding at least a  day's worth of water (1 - 6 quarts or litres of water  for residential trees.)  A premium maximum density tree ( 6 to 8 feet or 2 meters tall) can draw 1 gallon ( or 4 litres) of water in the first 12 to 36 hours.   This same amount can be taken up each day, for several days, before taping off to lower levels.  In a 3 week period, your tree can drink 10 to 12 gallons of plain water.  As a general rule of thumb, many species consume about 1 quart (l litre) of water every day per inch (2.5 cm) of stem diameter.

HOT TAP WATER
The first fill should be with hot tap water.  This will enable the sap to flow readily as the tree thaws.  The water will be drawn upwards - replenishing the moisture to the extremities. If suction stops, an air pocket develops and a new sap cover can form on the stump, preventing the suction of water.  The tree will then begin to dry prematurely.   Remember, trees that are taken care of properly can start to break bud and begin to flush out with new growth!
