POINSETTIA CARE
CARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR YOUR POINSETTIA (Euphorbia Pulcherrima)
How should you handle your poinsettia after you bring your selection home from Ellerslie Gift & Garden?
With proper care, poinsettias will retain their beauty for several weeks and sometimes even for months. Unwrap your poinsettia carefully, as the stems are brittle and break easily.
PLACEMENT
Place the plant in a sunny window, or close to a sunny window but make sure you keep the plant from touching any cold windows. You also want to ensure you keep the plant away from areas with hot air or cold drafts. So avoid the temperature extremes of radiators, air registers or open doors and windows. Keeping your poinsettia in a cooler room rather than a warmer room will help to extend the life of your plant.
WATER
When the soil is dry about half way down the pot, it is time to water thoroughly. Allow water to drain into a saucer and then discard the water. Remove the decorative foil or punch holes in the foil so the water can drain. Do Not Over Water!!!
CHANGES
It is common for some of the insider lower leaves to turn yellow and then drop off, as the plant adjusts to lower light levels in the home. Persuading poinsettia to re-bloom is not easy, but with some patience and the proper care, it often can be done.
